If so, we might have just the opportunity you’re looking for!Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Applied Engineering group is hiring an experienced Electrical Engineer to act as the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) Delegate for the National Electrical Code (NEC).Responsibilities Include:Review electrical designs, specifications, drawings, vendor submitted data, and INL Laboratory InstructionsInspect/approve electrical installations to the requirements of the NEC.Inspect/approve non-NRTL listed equipment, NRTL listed equipment modified for specific INL research needs, and Laboratory designed/assembled electrical equipment for approval and make recommendations for modifications necessary for compliance to the NEC.Assist NEC AHJ with maintaining the INL NEC AHJ Program and other related responsibilities as delegated by the NEC AHJ.Assist the INL AHJ with the application and enforcement of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70, for the INL facilities and research programs.Review and approval of electrical related design drawings, specifications, and vendor data for new construction and significant modifications.Management of program requirements associated with the inspection for compliance and acceptance of electrical equipment and installations.Define and maintain program requirements, performance metrics, and related documentation.Enforcement of the NEC with responsibility for making interpretations of the rules, for deciding on the approval of equipment and materials, and for granting the special permissions contemplated in a number of rules, including the waiving of specific requirements where specific rules are established in the NEC.Coordinate field representative resources as necessary to support the completion of required field activities in a manner that minimizes project delays to the extent practical.Develop required protocol for AHJ delegated engineers and inspectors to consistently execute responsibilities including (1) limits of authority, (2) interpretation of NEC requirements, (3) approval of electrical equipment, wiring methods, installations and materials for use, (4) ensuring electrical equipment is in compliance with NEC requirements.Assist with assessment of overall AHJ program effectiveness on a periodic basis and make improvements where necessary.QualificationsB.S. degree in Science and Engineering and 5 years experience, MS degree and 3 years of experience, or a PhD and 2 years of experience.National Electrical Code KnowledgeWillingness to perform field workAbility to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” clearance, which requires US CitizenshipPreferred Qualifications:B.S. degree in Science and Engineering and 12 years experience, or M.S. degree and 10 years experience.Certification such as Commercial Electrical Inspector and or Building Plans Examiner through the International Code Council (ICC) or the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) is a plus.
