Join us innovate the future!The High Performance Computing organization within the Nuclear Science & Technology (NS&T) Directorate at INL is seeking a talented High Performance Computing Software Consultant/System Administrator to function as an effective interface between the High Performance Computing and Advanced Scientific Computing directorate organizations and the rest of the Lab.ResponsibilitiesHPC leadership at INL including understanding mission requirements and providing solutions for usersMentor and develop new staffResponsible for designing, defining, installing, configuring, debugging, troubleshooting, optimizing, and maintaining HPC supercomputers and supporting infrastructure.

Demonstrate leadership through good communication skills, creativity and positivityDefine system architecture and application configurations for HPC systemsResearch, install, configure and maintain HPC system software Research, install, configure, manage, and maintain cluster level software for queuing, allocations, and reportingResearch, install, configure and maintain 3rd party HPC applicationsResearch and diagnose system operational problems quickly and effectivelyCoordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software problemsPort computer code and write system management software toolsSupport and maintain HPC system, software, and network security Define and document procedures and tasksParticipate in a 24-hour, 7-day on-call support rotation and off-hours maintenance activitiesImplement and integrate new systemsPerform system performance analysis and tuningProvide user support & trainingSupport laboratory wide training and outreach activities with the purpose of increasing HPC adoption at INLSupport university training and outreach activities with the purpose of building HPC and computational science skills Contribute to the enhanced reputation of HPC both at INL and regionallyBe familiar with data center design, cooling, power, and operationsCoordinate with HPC staff for bi-annual HPC maintenance/outagesSupport high performance computing through the design of software, database, and web-based solutions to monitor and capture key HPC metricsSupport python programming language and modern web development frameworks, content management systems, relational databases, graphical toolkits, version control systems, and OS X/Linux system administrationWork effectively both independently and as a member of the team in computer science, scientific software engineering, and client/server programmingTake direction from other team members and peers, and also provide input in a constructive manner to others while maintaining a positive and professional relationshipMonitor application usage so availability of resources is constant and proactively adjusted to meet demands.

Consult with scientists and Engineers regarding their HPC work.

QualificationsBachelor’s degree and 5 years relevant experience; OR Masters and 3 years relevant experiencePreference for PhD and 2 years relevant experience5 or more years of experience in high performance computingExpertise with MPI, OpenMP, and scripting languagesProgramming proficiency with C, C++, and FortranExperience in writing, porting, debugging, analyzing, and optimizing parallel programs5 or more years experience working with UNIX/LinuxIn-depth understanding of batch queuing and schedulingPositive customer service attitude and strong oral and written communication skillsExcellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated user support in scientific computingEffective team builder at project or organizational levelGroup Lead experience in an HPC environmentMust be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.INL is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S.
