HVAC Technician

This is a Contract position in Mullan, ID posted February 5, 2021.


The HVAC Technician will troubleshoot, repair and maintain heating, ventilation and refrigeration systems used in an underground and surface mining environment


Performs scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance activities.u2022 Inspect, repair, modify and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves and capillary tubes.u2022 Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, including boilers, gas, and electrically operated air conditioning equipment, and make necessary adjustments or repairs.u2022 Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, high limit controls, pressure controls, safety valves, and automatic gas valves.u2022 Perform preventive maintenance on the underground refrigeration units.u2022 Must learn and understand the underground chilled water system, add water system, and condenser water system. Must be able to install, replace, and service systems, components, and controls. Includes chillers, pumps, and all related components.u2022 Maintenance of spray chambers. Install, repair, and start up spray chambers, including piping manifolds, pumps, chamber, and tank.u2022 Use all related meters, instruments and tools required to properly work on refrigeration equipment and systems.u2022 Repair and rebuild semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors and compressors for centrifugal refrigeration machines.u2022 Install and calibrate systems; install copper and steel tubing and repair pipes and tubing as necessaryu2022 Flush heat exchangers and descale tubingu2022 Rebuild pressure and temperature safety valves and water pumps.u2022 Test and examine boiler operations.u2022 Conduct boiler water quality test and treatment.u2022 Adjust boiler burner combustion.u2022 Electrical troubleshooting and repairs up to < 480vu2022 Work with the Electrical Department team in the troubleshooting and repairs of all 480v and above equipment.u2022 Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the operation, troubleshooting and repair of the chillers and related components and systems.u2022 Machinery installation; Must know proper procedures for installation and alignment of components and electric motors.u2022 Tests all equipment repairs as applicable.u2022 Performs data input as required for inventory and cost control tracking.u2022 Completes required maintenance work orders, reports and logs.u2022 Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace.u2022 Comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations. Conducts activities and work in an environmentally responsible manner. Is aware of procedures to minimize impacts to the environment.u2022 Follows and understands MSHA rules and regulations, environmental rules and regulations, SOP and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities. Leads by exampleby adhering to rules and regulations, and ensuring compliance to rules and regulations established by the Mine Operations department.u2022 Must be able to work and communicate with other members of the work team.u2022 Must be willing to comply with all company policies and procedures.u2022 Participate in Risk Assessment activities as required.u2022 Participate in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as required.u2022 Must meet criteria established in the Maintenance Progression System.




High School graduate or equivalent.Technical certificate from an accredited air conditioning and refrigeration training program.Type I and type II refrigeration license to comply with Federal law 40CFR part 82, subpart F.Previous experience in a mine setting preferred.Must be able to access equipment information using electronic devices (i.e. laptop computer, tablet).Computer literate with at least basic skills in Excel, Word and MS Outlook
