The Business Analytics Consultant provides vital planning data analytics to support the Saint Alphonsus Health System (SAHS) Strategic Plan, the Strategic and Financial Plan (SFP) and the system business planning efforts.

This work is conducted across the strategy development, planning, execution and strategic management functions.

The consultant provides evaluation of environmental trends, assessment of core capabilities and financial performance, profiles competitors, conducts gap analyses and analyzes market research.

Supports system leadership in the development, approval, implementation, and evaluation of system-wide strategic projects such as joint ventures, acquisitions, new product development and existing product/service line expansion and growth initiatives.

Consultant interacts frequently with internal clients including: SAHS RHM Presidents, Saint Alphonsus Medical Group President & Chief Administrative Officer (SAMG), Alliance President and Executive Director; Service Line Leadership (SLL); CHE Trinity Project Management Office (PMO); and SAHS Councils.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Management or related field required.

Master Degree strongly preferred.

Minimum five years planning/analytic experience, preferably in a health care setting.

Advanced research, statistical and financial analysis background.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

Serves in lead planning analytics role and collaborates closely with the System Data Analytics team to ensure adequate planning analytical support is provided for preparation of market analysis reports, volume forecasts, service line or initiative performance, data analytics or other decision support needs.

Works closely with the System Data Analytics team to continuously refine and report performance clinical and financial metrics for tracking progress on strategic initiatives.

In collaboration with SAMG and the Health Alliance prepares and interprets system-wide physician gap analysis reports.

Provides consultation on physician needs with focus on gaps, trending and community need.

Presents findings and recommendations to senior leadership.

Supports the business scenario modeling process with market analysis, performance and data analytics, forecasting and seeks additional data resources to fully vet business opportunities.

Develops forecasts for profitable growth for all service lines, SAHS entities, Regional Health Ministries (RHMs), Saint Alphonsus Medical Group (SAMG) and the Alliance.

Prepares market assessments, demographics, current and future state for new markets (Cascade) as requested.

Researches analytical methods, models, and software tools to develop new approaches for the statistical and computational analysis of various data sets.

May be assigned to strategically manage portfolio(s) of designated system-wide programs and initiatives.

Using data and analytical models to guide discussions, serves as a strategic consultant and advisor to Service Line Leaders and Accountable Executives in the successful growth and evolution of service lines and strategic initiatives.

Provides direction and oversight for the completion of system-level annual reports.

(State Licensure, AHA, etc) Collaborates with the Director of System Planning to establish and communicate a well-documented Planning Cycle for the SAHS Strategic Planning and the Strategic Financial Planning process.

Conducts current and future market assessments including analytics for volume changes, population demographics, payment reform, employer and payor profiles, physician gap analysis and forecasting, competitive analysis, technology needs and regulatory changes.

Develops growth projections and volume tracking in support of the strategic financial planning and strategic management processes.

Monitors and evaluates market changes and presents business models to address external forces such as payment reform, technology trends, physician profiles, competition, regulation, to name a few.

Prepares and communicates an annual Market Scan for the Idaho and Oregon regions to internal senior leadership, service line leaders and initiative champions.

Formulates strategic and tactical conclusions from data review and analyses to provide actionable recommendations to senior leadership in an easy to understand communication method.

Develops scorecards, population health analyses, benchmarking studies and other clinical and financial research and provides value added analyses and summaries.

Recommends and executes financial and clinical metrics for the strategic plan dashboard reporting process and for business planning initiatives and assists in the monitoring of meeting established metrics.

Consults with Service Line Leaders (SLL) to recommend and define, develop and report financial and clinical metrics for annual strategic plans and SWOT growth initiatives.

On behalf of the System, manages vendor relationships with Health Advisory Board, Truven Analytics, Sg2 and other planning vendors.

This includes maintenance of current contracts, review of contract terms and account executive relationships.

Makes recommendations to Director on how to best leverage tools and resources for system-wide benefit.

Supports the Accountable Executive (The Alliance and SAMG) in preparation of the ambulatory strategies for the health system.

This may require data analytics to support the business development function, volume forecasts, projections and market trending reports to support growth initiatives.

Prepares reports and presentations for CIC/Growth Council review.

Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability interpret and effectively communicate analytic findings to boards, executive and senior management teams, physicians, department management and staff using clear and concise methods and presentation media.

Advance knowledge of industry standards and practices in descriptive/predictive analytics, modeling and reporting concepts.

Knowledge of advanced statistical analysis including opportunity assessments, clinical and financial risk tracking, trend identification and predictive modeling exercises.
